SOLD / Private commission / $4,000 /40" x 34" acrylic on canvas. DESCRIPTION: There's a lot going on in multiple star system, Rho Ophiuchi. Antares, the brightest star taking spotlight at lower left, is an enormous red super giant in the last stages of life (700 times the size of our sun!), will eventually explode into a super nova. Particles are being stripped away from its shell as it balloons outwards creating the glowing, wispy yellow nebula. Surrounding this prominent nebula are objects worth investigating: globular clusters, hot red gases of Sigma Scorpio, blue reflection nebula, and rivers of dark dust tendrils. Each of these objects are intriguing on their own but I find them even more compelling when seeing them tucked within this beautiful star forming region in the Constellation Scorpius.
