Signature of the Universe / 2012
SOLD / Original $1,875 / Acrylic on canvas 16" x 16" / Prints available. Description: From the tiniest subatomic particles, to the countless stars in the cosmos, to copious forms of life, an astounding story has been evolving from a cocoon of cosmic possibilities for billions of years. Who or what set this story into motion? Is everything in the universe interconnected? What is consciousness and can it pervade all things? How and why did Life begin? 'Signature of the Universe' was conceived from contemplations on questions such as these. With the thought of being made of "star stuff", I began to imagine the ability to peer deeper and deeper into the aliveness of a being and magnify the stuff of the universe pulsing with life within that being. Its a lovely thing to simply enjoy a moment of imagining and unexpectedly something beyond the ordinary releases a unique narrative, a mystical metamorphosis emerges finally to soar throughout the cosmos, swirling with live-giving energies and marking everything it encounters with the distinct signature of the universe within. Lucy,

This picture is worth much more than a mere thousand words. Your painting recognizes the moth's consummate ability to simulate many creatures and objects throughout the natural world. The allegory contained in Untitled/2012 illustrates the relationship between the smallest of creatures and the vastness of the universe, and you've accomplished this feat with such beauty and sublimity. Creation come full circle, and all within a space of two hundred and fifty six square inches. Amazing!
